Don’t let them price out the nurses and other key workers
Thursday, 24th May 2018
• I AM appalled at our National Health Service plans to sell off key workers housing at Queen Mary’s House, belonging to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.
At present 52 nurses, teachers and other key workers are housed on affordable rents who otherwise would be unable to afford to live near where they work.
This sale, should it go through, will further contribute to the privatisation of our NHS and make it even harder for nurses struggling on inadequate wages to survive.
The NHS is piece by piece being dismantled by an ideologically-driven privatisation agenda, and this proposed sale of publicly-owned key workers housing, to a development company in the private sector, furthers the agenda.
Despite being in the midst of the worst housing crisis in living memory, the developers’ proposals reveal a luxury estate with no affordable or social rent homes.
I hope that our Conservative councillors in Hampstead will oppose any planning permission sought to turn the land use from key workers’ housing to a private development.
