Don’t forget Albert Adams

• I VERY much enjoyed your supplement on Black History Makers but wanted to mention one notable absentee, a Camden resident for many decades, the artist Albert Adams (1929-2006).

His work was not well known beyond his friends until after his death, but has since been lauded in his native South Africa and many museums are starting to show exhibitions. The University of Salford has something planned for next year.

Adams came to London due to apartheid. Denied an education in South Africa he came to Camden and in his later years taught all around London at various colleges. He never lost his sense of social justice which informed his work greatly. His star is rising fast.

In years to come I am confident his house in Camden, where he worked quietly in his studio, will be adorned with a blue plaque, and rightly so.
