Year 6 player Zak Street, left, challenges for the ball against Hackney

THE borough’s district footballers narrowly missed out on points in two cup competitions this week.

Camden’s Year 6 side were unable to overcome Hackney in their opening match in the Kay Trophy at Regent’s Park on Saturday.

Louis O’Neill levelled for Camden in the first half but the visitors added a second goal in the final minutes to win 2-1.

Kay Trophy holders Camden have two more group matches to go in the tournament and manager Abul Koyar remains upbeat about their chances. “The end result didn’t really reflect our performance,” he said. “We will just continue to work hard and look to get six points from the next two games.”

Meanwhile, a depleted Islington and Camden district team were unable to extend their run in the Watkin Cup, losing 3-1 to Brent. Solomon Arouna scored for the Year 7 outfit, who are next in Watkin Cup action against Harrow in the new year.
