Disrupters in the transport industry

The issue
Things are happening in the transport industry and disrupters such as Omio are starting to leave their mark everywhere around London and other major cities in the world. This change is driven by society itself and the apparent need for rapid evolvement within the travel industry to meet our requirements.
We want to travel smarter, cheaper and faster. If there is a possibility of being able to book travels in advance and in the process being able to choose everything from seat to luggage options, we will most likely take it. Somehow life seems to be moving at a faster pace than before and as such we often find ourselves in need of information while we are on the go. Many of us appreciate being able to access for instance traffic information while we are waiting on the bus to see if we should be thinking of alternate routes.
Then there is the fact that the world is in dire need of alternatives to the means of transportation that we have now. We need alternatives that leaves lesser carbon footprints and makes transportation more sustainable.
The disrupters
Often we speak of game changers in the transport industry but what does that really mean? In this case it means bringing attention to companies that are promoting solutions in the sharing economy sphere, i.e. rental scooters, rental bikes and travel apps, aimed at finding the best way of using means of transportation that will allow people to travel together like on busses or trains.
It also means building apps that will allow users to compare travel options available to them. Time is a precious commodity and if you could access travel information based on preference and need by using an app on your phone, you will do so. Imagine needing to go from point A to point B but the distance is too far for a walk, then a rental bike for instance is perfect. No hassle of ownership and once you have reached your destination, the next person in need of a bike can look at the app and see that it is available.
The solution
Disrupters such as Omio are focused on making a shared economy work. By presenting people with sustainable solutions, which challenge our current transportation fleet, these apps aimed at providing us with information on how to best use for instance the public transportation system, will not only help us cut back on carbon emissions but also make life a bit more hassle-free.
By being able to access information as well as comparing different ways of travelling sustainably, it is possible to travel not only smarter, but faster too. Many of us constantly use our phones anyway, to do everything from checking our emails to posting on Instagram and of course, stay in touch with friends and family. Why not then also use the phone to download apps which will make travelling more sustainable and quick? The disrupters are here to stay and we should all make a point of using them.
