Diesel-heavy traffic is being displaced not reduced

Camden’s air quality improvement (for all) initiative: ‘We’ll all be long gone before that shows positive results’
• WITH reference to the article on problems experienced by residents in Camden Town, Cllr Adam Harrison (who we’ve met and seems a fair and decent local rep) states the council wants to “stop local rat runs and improve air quality” (Calls to reverse low traffic scheme on ‘gridlock’ roads, October 8).
What constitutes a rat run? There are few roads in this borough which are non-residential and cycling is not an option for most people for obvious reasons.
In the south of the borough congestion is even worse and moving out of the area is not possible for residents living on main roads and on low incomes.
Lockdown was very difficult the only up side being able to open windows for the first time in years without choking on bus and heavy goods vehicle fumes.
Without co-ordinated changes across Camden the diesel-heavy traffic is being displaced rather than reduced.
As for Camden’s air quality improvement (for all) initiative, unfortunately from what we have seen so far we’ll all be long gone before that shows positive results.
