Jermaine Dhliwayo celebrates beating some of the capital’s best with St Pancras coach CJ Hussein

TOP St Pancras ABC prospect Jermaine Dhliwayo conquered the capital on Saturday when he landed the club’s first major title of 2022.

Competing at Under-60kg, the 19-year-old out-pointed Hamza Hajee Sheriff from East London Boxing Academy over three three-minute rounds to win the London Boxing Intermediate Championships.

Held at the Dagenham Roundhouse in Essex, it was Dhliwayo’s third victory in the competition over back-to-back weekends.

His journey started the previous Saturday when he also out-pointed East London Boxing Academy’s Uzair Maqbool in the quarter-finals, before returning on the Sunday to beat John Spillane from Fisher ABC in the semi-finals.

“In his very first bout against Maqbool he lost the opening round and was heading out of the tournament,” admitted Saints’ head coach CJ Hussein.

“But then Jermaine woke up to the challenge in front of him and turned the fight around to win via a spilt decision. He got better and better as the competition went on – beating, in my opinion, two of the favourites in Maqbool and Sheriff along the way.”

Hussein added: “Jermaine has been working really hard in training and has been doing well in sparring. He deserves the success.”
