Dear Tulip, My apologies…

Thursday, 15th June 2017

• DEAR Tulip, I am sorry for my letter of last week on election day (End of a run? June 8).

I voted for you at about 7:15 but thought you would lose because in 2015 your majority was only 1,138 and Ukip polled 1,532. I assumed that as Ukip didn’t field a candidate the majority of that vote would revert to the Tory party.

But the Ukip vote completely disappeared. I was lucky to have a ticket for the count and it was very rewording to see those ballot papers in your favour. I spoke to a Tory councillor and said “You are going to lose”. “No we are not, we are going to get smashed”, came the reply.

Another rewarding factor was the numerous young people working at the count for the Labour Party. Have we secured the youth vote at last?
