CELEBRATIONS marking the 40th birthday of a popular Finsbury Park leisure centre really hit the heights when more than 650 people from Camden and Islington rolled up to join the fun.

Visitors to a special open day at the Sobell Centre in Hornsey Road enjoyed a host of family activities, taster sessions and displays.

Among the highlights was Jake White from Tri-Slacklining performing one of the first high-lining displays in London in front of an audience that included the Mayor of Islington Cllr Barry Edwards, and Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn.

Jothi Reddy, a volunteer on the day, said: “Everyone enjoyed themselves and staff members were brilliant. It was a real pleasure to see so many people enjoying the Sobell’s facilities.”
