New cycle parking racks in Kentish Town Road
• I AGREE with Mireille Burton that the new cycle parking racks in Kentish Town Road are very badly designed, (Pollution has been made worse in Kentish Town Road, December 10).
They stick out too far into the road and are likely to be hit by vehicles. They are not easy to use, as cyclists can only access them from the pavement, whereas the racks are at road level so you are trapped by the kerb.
This is very difficult if you are carrying shopping on your bike. It would have been better to build out the pavement, as this would have taken up less space.
Unfortunately this is another example where highway engineers have not properly considered the needs of cyclists or other road users.
It is a mistake which will have to be redone, hopefully quickly. This careless approach to highway design is stoking a culture war in Camden.
Cyclists are regularly abused by pedestrians when they are cycling quietly along the side of the road. It is shocking to have “f****** cyclists” shouted at you for no apparent reason. Highway designers have a responsibility to everyone to do a better job.
