Cut the noise
Thursday, 20th August 2020
• CAMDEN’S constant scheduling of noisy roadworks in our neighbourhood, the crossroads of Marchmont Street and Tavistock Place, WC1, is completely unacceptable.
Most recently this has been weeks of extreme noise (including Saturday mornings) for the laying of fibre-optic cables by 5 Network.
But it comes after years of near constant rebuilding of Tavistock place for traffic schemes, cycle lanes, utilities, etc.
This has been especially intolerable during lockdown, when there are so few opportunities for escape. Marchmont Street is 80 per cent residential, 20 per cent shops.
It also comes on top of a series of illegal all-night raves in the street in July. Despite numerous complaints, neither the council nor the police did anything about these parties. The council claims this is “essential” work.
What attention does it ever pay to the mental health of residents and their right to quiet enjoyment of their homes?
The scheduling of this barrage of works should be immediately revised to give us more respite.
