Problems with rent increases
• MANY people think that rent control is the answer to the problems of the private rented sector, but that very much depends on what type of system you have in place.
For older regulated or protected tenants living here in Camden, and other parts of the country, the rent increases they are facing are also large at the moment, and for people trying to survive on modest pensions and diminishing savings it is a very worrying time indeed.
This is because the fair rent formula that the rent officers use to calculate these increases is 5 per cent + inflation which, as we all know, is very high at the moment.
That’s why we’re holding a meeting for this particular group of Camden private tenants on Monday November 13 starting at 11am in St Silas Church Hall, which is adjacent to our office at 13 Malden Road, NW5.
It will be a rare opportunity to hear from a senior rent officer at the Valuation Office Agency and also to ask questions about the process for landlord-requested rent increases.
It will also be a chance to find out what support with the cost of living is currently on offer in Camden, as a council officer will be attending to talk about this as well.
For more information about this event, email: admin@cfpt.org.uk or call: 020 7383 0151.
Please be aware that we are extremely busy at the moment, and if you cannot get through on the phone, do leave a message with your name and number.
