AFTER a seven-goal battle royal Cobden Athletic got their hands on the first piece of silverware of the season in the Camden Sunday League when they beat MDM to capture the Senior Cup.

Top scorer Steven Bruce opened the scoring for Cobden, but some weak defending from a corner saw MDM equalise to leave the game finely balanced at 1-1 at half time.

MDM took the lead early in the second half but Cobden grabbed a lucky eqauliser when Winston Fowler’s corner flew straight into the net. The game went to extra time and seemed to be heading in MDM’s favour when a tame shot somehow found its way under Cobden keeper Matthew Summers.

But a fantastic header from Jack Bond made it 3-3 before Jason Williams scored in the final seconds to earn Cobden a frantic and fantastic 4-3 victory.
