Crowdfunder appeal and online shows in bid to save Green Note venue
Social distancing rules means that, if music venues did reopen, venue in Parkway could only have 12 in the audience

AN independent live music venue is raising funds to invest in more online gigs and live-streaming equipment as it adapts to the “unprecedented turn of events” of the lockdown.
The Green Note, in Parkway, Camden Town, has been closed since mid-March and managers say they “do not yet know when or how” they can reopen to the public.
The venue was founded in 2005 by Immy Doman and Risa Tabatznik, who also manage the business which has become a fixture of the Camden Town music scene.
Ms Doman: “We are enjoying doing these online shows so far. We have had three artists playing, and they have been interactive. Some have been super-international. One had three artists – one in Australia, one in America and one in London. It’s been really fun for that reason.
“The highest number we have watching live is almost 500, and then a couple of thousand watch on catch-up. “It is also a way of supporting artists during this time, and to keep the Green Note name alive.”

The Green Note’s “rootsy and acoustic” shows are streamed every Friday and Wednesday on Zoom, with the audience encouraged to make a donation. Social distancing rules will mean that just 12 people could attend the intimate venue if it was to reopen to the public.
Ms Tabatznik added: “We are a really small venue and even when we are allowed to open it’s going to be at a reduced capacity. It’s going to be in ways that financially probably won’t work for us.
“It’s going to be a long time away before it will be sustainable for our business. So we are running the crowdfunder to get equipment. We want to start live-streaming from the venue eventually.” The Green Note fundraiser is part of a national scheme set up by the Music Venues Trust to stop permanent closures.
Anything raised above the £12,000 target will go to the MVT’s general crisis fund. As of last night (Wednesday) the Green Note’s appeal had raised more than £4,600 towards its £12,000 target.
