DIVISION Three side South Hampstead were one of the few teams to record a result on Saturday as heavy showers washed out the action in the Middlesex County Cricket League.

Having been put into bat by Acton Jason Williams smashed 92 off 116 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes, while Algie Corbin scored 75 off 113 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes.

With the weather limiting the number of overs, their combined efforts gave South Hampstead a fighting chance of securing victory as they declared on 216-5 after 45 overs.

Williams was just as lethal with the ball as he took four wickets at the expense of 58 runs. But Acton managed to snatch four points from the winning-draw courtesy of their faster run-rate as they ended play on 169-6 off 34 overs.

In the top flight Hampstead’s match against Winchmore Hill lasted just 42 overs before being abandoned.

Having managed 74 overs there was a surprise that North Middlesex’s game against Brondesbury didn’t force a result in Division Two. Tom Nicoll took 5-58 as Brondesbury hit 198-7 in their 55 overs. Scores of 57 not out for Jaron Semper and 30 from Sam Webber left North Midd agonisingly close to victory as they ended on 135-4 off 19 overs.
