Councillors must listen on Gaza, not walk out on us

Thursday, 29th February 2024

• IN my time as a councillor my regular surgeries were open to all without any prior booking at the well-advertised location, to discuss any subject the resident or residents wished to raise.

Lately we hear of surgeries cancelled at the last minute, surgeries not happening at all, surgeries only by advance booking, and residents turned down if the subject was not to the councillor’s liking. One councillor even threatened to walk out of her surgery.

What is going on? Residents are distraught at the killing and starvation being perpetrated on the people of Gaza and we want Camden Council to call for an immediate ceasefire and the restoration of aid supplies.

We also hear that the council has over £30million of its pension fund invested in companies working in Israel and human rights lawyers have said this may amount to complicity in genocide.

It’s our democratic right to be heard by our elected councillors. Where are they?
