Council officers reports economical with the truth

Litter in Lismore Circus

• WE are witnessing a serious anti-democratic shift by the council, the “appointment” of the cabinet rather than an “election” being a current example.

This slide is being underpinned by “fake news” from council officers. A prime example is the written report of one last week to a Gospel Oak community group concerned about litter in Lismore Circus.

He stated: “I am currently working with caretaking services on issues regarding littering, fly-tipping and overflowing litter bins… in Lismore Circus. Veolia are required to empty the litter bins in gated park / play areas in the circus… and litter bins surrounding these areas are maintained by estate services/ caretaking staff.

“I am pleased to see Gospel Oak is one of the lowest overall number of reports (of littering) against all wards.”

The photo above, taken on Sunday, show the real situation. All bins were overflowing and some had not been emptied for weeks. Many stank of dogs’ mess as bags of this had burst open.

Leaving aside the example, there seems to be a growing tendency of officers to provide reports which at best are “economical with the truth” and ignore the necessity for consultation.

Are our councillors taken in by reports such as these?
