COUNCIL leader Georgia Gould was handed a ministerial job almost immediately after becoming an MP for the first time. As the New Journal reported in our election special, Camden has been left with three council by-elections and an internal Labour leadership contest for the Town Hall reins.

This is because Ms Gould has been elected in Maida Vale and Queen’s Park, while councillors Lloyd Hatton and Danny Beales also became MPs after being elected in Dorset and Uxbridge respectively.

In a rare move for a new MP, prime minister Sir Keir Starmer has immediately recruited Ms Gould, who had led the council for seven years and served for 14 as a councillor, as the new parliamentary secretary for the cabinet office.
