Could Primrose Hill soon match San Gimignano?
Neighbours in Rothwell Street oppose roof terrace decking

THE installation of a roof terrace at a house in Primrose Hill has been compared with San Gimignano – the Italian town famous for its unusual towers.
Neighbours in Rothwell Street want the council to intervene over the decking, which it is claimed could set a precedent for other homeowners in the area.
One objector who wrote to the council said that, due to privacy concerns, he would have to replace his half-height net curtains for full size ones if the changes were allowed.
“Competitive upwards development would result in a modern-day San Gimignano developing in our neighbourhood,” the message sent to planners said.
The same sentiments on privacy have been shared by other residents in the street.
The walled Tuscan hill parish of San Gimignano is known as the town of five towers and is a Unesco world heritage site.
Applicants say the new terrace in Rothwell Street is a “modest and sensitive enhancement”, located “beyond existing parapet walls”.
