Corporate events have been taking over Coram’s Fields

• I AM hoping that publicity will contribute to improvement in the Coram’s Fields situation, (Save our park! Fears keepers at historic park will be axed, February 10).
We used to live locally, until recently, and my two kids have been using Coram’s for 10 years, since they were toddlers.
In the last few years I saw more and more restrictions on using football pitches by kids. Now it is limited to half of one of the fields, until 3pm.
The rest of the fields are rented away all the time, and the only available one after 3pm is rented too.
One-half of the field is not nearly enough to accommodate all the kids wanting to play football, and after 3pm all the kids are kicked out of the football pitches.
Because of all the renting Coram’s is always full of adults walking though it to and from the pitches.
Over half of Coram’s is not used for anything, it’s just badly maintained grass or damaged asphalt for kids to trip over.
The other half is a play area and grass designed for toddlers and young kids. The basketball pitch is very heavily used by older kids, but there is not much else for them.
So much more could be done with Coram’s to serve children and parents, in particular older kids. For example, as a skate park, exercise area, obstacle course…
Around festive periods Coram’s is becomes a commercial area for corporate events. Workers kick everyone out of Coram’s half-an-hour before closing time.
There is almost never anyone at the entrance monitoring who comes out of the grounds.
The feeling is that the fields are becoming more and more commercialised and less and less serving its purpose. It would be great to start moving in the opposite direction.
