Corbyn the voice of reason? Far from it
Thursday, 24th January 2019

• LOUIS Loizou’s letter (We can work continent-wide for a whole new European project, January 10) was a breath of fresh air amid all the anti-Brexit plotting in Westminster.
He correctly characterises the EU as primarily benefitting big business. This has been borne out by subsequent revelations in The Telegraph (January 17). A full transcript, intended to be kept secret, of Chancellor Philip Hammond’s Conference Call with a cabal of international businessmen, has been published.
Immediately following the Commons’ defeat of Theresa May’s withdrawal ‘agreement’, heads of foreign-based multinationals (Siemens, Amazon, and Spanish-owned Scottish Power) demanded assurances that Parliament would not be prevented from blocking a No Deal exit on March 29. The multinationals are pulling the strings of the British government.
And who is up there in league with these capitalists? Far from being “the voice of reason” (How a voice of reason struggled to be heard in the Brexit debate, January 10) – Jeremy Corbyn and most of his party.
They deny the opportunities afforded by trade outside the EU. They do not speak for ordinary people and will be punished at the ballot box. Old allegiances must shift in Camden if the people of the UK and their fellow workers in Europe are to make progress.
