Corbyn is a breath of fresh air for young voters

Thursday, 1st June 2017

• I AM very excited about the upcoming election. From what I have seen when canvassing in Camden, a lot of people agree with me – it feels for the first time in many years that we have a real choice about the direction we want our country to go in.

I am particularly excited that millions of young people have registered to vote for the first time. I have been outside colleges in Camden over the past few weeks reminding over-18s to register to vote. The response has been wonderful – our young people have been engaged, articulate and enthusiastic.

In past elections the age group of 18- to 24-year-olds has been the least likely to vote; I sense that we will see a difference this time. I am putting this change down to Jeremy Corbyn, who is a breath of fresh air in British politics and has reached young people in a way other politicians have failed to do.

I hope everybody gets out to vote on June 8 but I particularly hope the young first-time voters go and make their choice. The future belongs to them: I believe it will be a better one for everybody if we elect Corbyn’s Labour.
