Consultation on the future of Queen’s Crescent has reached new depths

• CONSULTATION on the future of Queen’s Crescent and the spending of the GLA’s £1.1million grant has reached new depths.
First there were problems accessing the meeting. At the virtual meeting there was no indication who was present, other than council officers and councillors.
The presentations, which took up most of the time, provided valuable information on the social and economic deprivation of the area. But this was not very relevant to the topic of Queen’s Crescent and Grafton Road closures.
No community resident, shopkeeper, or market stall-holder was permitted to speak. Issues from the chat room were ignored. I again suggested expenditure on repairing broken street furniture, pavements and the road surface; again ignored.
Many present seemed unaware of the proposal to close off Grafton Road. Officers said local people could use Vicars Road as a throughway, seemingly unaware that on this narrow road there is an infants’ school. No doubt satnavs would quickly identify this new rat-run for motorists.
A councillor admitted the £1.1million, or what is now left of it once the many consultants have had their largesse, had to be spent, hence the consultation rush. The grant was originally gained in February 2018.
The icing on the cake came after an email had been sent out accompanying a video of the meeting. This was quickly followed by an email from a council “information rights officer” stating there had been a data breach.
She subsequently phoned to reassure me that my personal data was not compromised. She is the only star in a dogs’ breakfast of a consultation. Closing date is February 28.
