• THE Camden New Journal has been at the heart of our community for four decades. I reach for its sister paper, the Islington Tribune, every week – always with joy, tempered with a little trepidation.

That is what local newspapers are about. Representing our views and interests, holding power and authority to account, reporting on the serious and the light-hearted aspects of local life. Informing us and entertaining us. Our local newspapers do that all so well.

So I am really pleased the CNJ has been named Weekly Newspaper of the Year, and that the paper’s William McLennan has been rewarded with reporter of the year for his work on the impact of this government’s policies on people in our corner of north London.

These are such well deserved honours and I send my congratulations to the whole team for the fantastic work they do.
