HARPENDEN socialite Simon Collings was rewarded for the miles he covered at the weekend to play in the Camden Sunday League as he scored what proved to be the winner for title-chasing Crouch End Rangers.

Declan Taylor broke the deadlock against Auld Shillelagh before Collings crashed home a superb second at windswept Hackney Marshes.

Auld Shillelagh set up a grandstand finish by halving the arrears from a direct free-kick with 10 minutes to play, but Rangers clung on for a

2-1 victory to move within a point of the division one summit.

Title rivals Clerkenwell Old Boys also celebrated as they beat JRL 3-2 on penalties to book their place in the quarter-finals of the London Sunday Trophy.

JRL took the lead midway through the first half in a topsy-turvy game at Chase Lodge in Barnet. But their lead only lasted five minutes as Jessie Courtney played the ball to Dean Francis, who unleashed a thunderous 25-yard drive to level the scores.

Clerkenwell took the lead on the stroke of half time when the excellent Steve Killingback played in Gavin Auty, who coolly chipped the keeper.

JRL managed to get the better of their Islington-based rivals in the second half, however, as they made it 2-2 to force penalties.

Goalkeeper Robbie Almond stepped up to become a Sunday football star as he saved two spot kicks in the nail-biting shootout, with Aiden Chainey, Dan Attard and Killingback all scoring to spark Clerkenwell celebrations.
