Closure of Sandall Road is an improvement
Thursday, 11th June 2020
• REGARDING the complaints to the closure of Sandall Road, Camden Town, (Closure was without consultation, June 4) it should be clarified that there was proper consultation and notice – letters to each household – regarding the problem of increasing traffic coming through Sandall Road and the eventual decision to close the road to auto traffic.
I attended the meeting at Kentish Town Community Centre on February 17 when everyone was given an opportunity to express their views on the increasing level of traffic. The suggestion there was no “prior consultation of residents” is incorrect.
Nor is Sandall Road a vital access road, no more than any other road in the area. And buses continue to run up and down Camden Road and Kentish Town Road as normal.
The fact is too many motorists both private and commercial were using Sandall Road as a “rat-run” to reach Kentish Town High Street more quickly.
I have noticed an immediate improvement in both noise and air quality since the closure and endorse this improvement.
