Protests on the Heath

• I WAS appalled that the City is sitting on £3billion in assets, yet they continue to charge the poor, vulnerable and disabled for swimming in the Heath ponds just as we most need it, (Ponds charge protests: ‘Free swim has never been needed more’, August 27).

I read the letter from Sir Keir Starmer to City of London and what stood out most for me is the part were he stated that compulsory charging “will exclude or alienate many current regular users, and commercialise the ponds”.

This is what most people who agree with the charges have failed to understand, the ponds should not be commercialised.

They should be free and open to everyone without people having to go begging to a hardship fund or support scheme. This is degrading, humiliating, discriminating.

Why should I have to give my personal and financial details to this rich, greedy corporation? This goes against the ethics and moral principles of the whole pond experience.
