CIP has brought devastation too

Thursday, 9th July 2020

• PERHAPS councillor Danny Beales should hold himself to account for the devastation his Community Investment Programme has caused to Gospel Oak rather than confining it to the HS2, (We’ll continue to hold HS2 to account on their promises, July2).

If he would care to visit our area I will show him seven non-building sites left derelict by the council for, in some cases, over five years, the former sites of over 20 small workshops demolished but not replaced, a net loss of around 50 council rent homes since 2012, the ruins of one of the best TRA halls in the area demolished over three years ago, a primary school and nursery that his colleagues on the council cabinet are “proposing” to close, litter strewn areas, bins having been removed, and much more.

There are now “secret” plans to set up to a “residents’ panel” and yet, no doubt, more consultant-led and expensive consultations following the long list of previously ignored reports over the last decade, and the three previous partnership boards closed down by the council.

We also need more transparency. Cllr Beales cannot shift the blame to the government. This is his responsibility. I think the saying is “people who live in glass houses should not throw stones”.

I offer an open invitation to him to come to our area and I will give him a tour, suitably socially-distanced, of course, of the above.

I am not holding my breath for a response.

MICK FARRANT,
NW5
