HAIRDRESSER Christina John (pictured, above) is hoping to make a big splash for cash on Saturday when she goes back to her roots to take on an energy-sapping charity challenge.

The 45-year-old, who lives in Belsize Park, is aiming to complete 100 lengths of the 25-metre pool at the Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre in Adelaide Road as part of the nationwide swimathon – which is raising vital funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

For Christina the challenge will be extra special as she returns to the pool where she first learnt to swim when she was just seven years old.

“It will be very nostalgic. I remember going there with my family and friends when I was younger, I’d be swimming with my granddad and my sister, while my mum watched on from the side of the pool,” she said.

“I have a great emotional attachment to the centre, even if it has changed a bit over the years. Me and my swimming partner, Peta Rosario, are hoping to raise £2,000 by swimming 100 lengths each – covering a 5k distance,” added Christina, who has competed in the swimathon once before – three years ago.

“Any amount that we’re sponsored, even if it’s only £1, would be really appreciated. Our donation page will remain open even after the event so please show your support for what is such a worthy cause.”
