SCORES of youngsters were beaming with pride over Easter after they earned the right to represent Camden in the London School Games.
The Games are aimed at motivating children nationwide to take part in competitive sport on a more regular basis. In the London finals at Crystal Palace boys and girls donned their Camden colours to showcase their skills and team spirit in a number of events, including football, netball, hockey and tag rugby.
Primary pupils qualified for the finals after taking part in a range of different sports competitions, tournaments and leagues organised by the Camden Schools Sports Association (CSSA) and the Camden Sport and Physical Activity Team.
The girls’ football team from St Paul’s Primary in Elsworthy Road, Primrose Hill, and the boys from Holy Trinity and St Silas School in Hartland Road, Chalk Farm, might have missed out on medals in Crystal Palace but they were still very much champions in their own right.
They booked their place at the finals after winning the CSSA League play-offs at the Talacre Community Sports Centre in Kentish Town following 14 weeks of pulsating action.
Other proud borough winners were St Aloysius, who won Camden’s Tag-Rugby Championships at Parliament Hill Fields, and St Albans, who won the Gymnastics competition.
