Changes in traffic regulations should be subject to proper consultation

Camden Square’s new route
• YET again we have the council imposing further new traffic regulations, albeit in the guise of safer neighbourhoods.
They have done this before when Covid-19 was at its height. I don’t agree with imposing something and saying you can tell us what you think in 12 months. That is democracy in reverse.
A thorough consultative process should take place before any measures are put in place.
Why is it that Camden Council has no problem with small businesses having the life squeezed out of them with such measures and so soon after lockdown?
Cllr Danny Beales has jumped on the bandwagon with some helpful soundbites in the CNJ, (New road layout like Spaghetti Junction, February 17). For example, “Everyone agrees”. From reading the CNJ that is not true.
He mentions that around 5,000 cars use Murray Street every day. Is this correct or just another soundbite to beef up his story?
He refers to pollution; and yes, I know, I want less pollution. However banning vehicles from short-cuts only pushes them on to the main roads, which then causes traffic jams and that does Camden’s air quality no good at all, does it. Parkway is a prime example.
Cllr Beales says: “We need to work together as a community…” If that is the case, why have the council and Cllr Beales not allowed this to happen now instead of in 12 months?
