ARSENAL travel to Hull City tomorrow (Sunday) knowing that a win will move them four points clear ahead of Everton in the race for the Champions League, even if only for a couple of hours. The Toffees have a showdown with former manager David Moyes and Manchester United later in the afternoon.
After the Merseysiders surprisingly dropped points on Wednesday night in a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace, the Gunners now have their qualification fate in their own hands with four games left to play.
They will be boosted by the timely return of record signing Mesut Ozil for the trip to Humberside, which will be a preview of next month’s FA Cup final at Wembley.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of the match on Thursday, manager Arsene Wenger said: “It's good to have him back because we had so many offensive players out. He gives you always opportunities to score and I have to test him physically to see if he can travel.”
Mathieu Flamini will also return for the Gunners, after missing the last two games through suspension having picked up 10 yellow cards. Wenger, however, will be without the injured Kieran Gibbs still out. Nacho Monreal is a possible stand-in if he recovers from a knock in time to play. Thomas Vermaelen deputised in the 3-1 win against West Ham on Tuesday.
Hull City meanwhile come into the game on the back of Sunday’s 5-3 FA Cup semi-final win over Sheffield United at Wembley in which they booked their first ever final berth.
The Tigers famously won at the Emirates after being promoted in 2008, but Arsenal have won the last five meetings between the two sides.
* Tottenham Hotspur's run to a Europa League spot continues when they entertain a Fulham side scrapping for survival on Saturday.
Spurs will welcome back Mousa Dembele to face his former team after he missed the games with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion.
They are still without Jan Vertonghen, Etienne Capoue, Kyle Walker and Erik Lamela, all sidelined with injury. Manager Tim Sherwood, however, confirmed that Roberto Soldado and Michael Dawson have returned to training following respective hamstring injuries.
Nicklas Bendtner scored an early goal when Hull City were defeated by Arsenal at the Emirates in December
