TWO giant-killing results and a walk-off added spice to the CSFL’s CNJ Challenge Cup on Sunday as 12 teams went head-to-head at Hackney Marshes.

Surreal Madrid D and Tufnell Park Athletic both recorded victories over higher division opposition to make it into the quarter finals in January.

Camden Borough have been called to see the league committee in January, however, after they abandoned their match against Coalition Crusaders with the score at 6-0.

“We started with eight and had 10 just before half time but a couple of players wanted to walk off so we had to forfeit the game,” said manager John Eager.

He added that following the postponement of Borough’s forthcoming fixture this weekend, the club had decided to fold, although the league still hope to see the Division One side next month.

“We hope to see them,” said a spokesman.

“We don’t want any team to leave the league.”

It was a happier day for Surreal, whose D and A teams both made it through to the quarters.

Keeper Gavin Home was the hero for the Ds, saving twice for the Division Three side in a penalty shoot-out decider against Hurricanes after a goalless, but gripping, 90 minutes plus extra time.

Hurricanes keeper Rob Porter almost did enough to put his Division One side through when he saved in the shoot-out.

But Home’s two spot-kick saves and a cool finish from David Stringer in the sudden death won it 5-4 for the underdogs.

Division Two outfit Tufnell also secured their quarter final place after seeing off an understrength Dinamo Dorigo from Division One thanks to goals from Benjie Guy, James Kelly (2), Matt Edgar and an own goal.

Boundary Estate were another team who could only field 10 men and they were made to pay by Division One’s Surreal Madrid A.

Leo Spicer-Phelps scored for the Division Three team with a whipped free kick but Surreal bounced back with goals from Michael Sargeant, Dundar Hassan, Roy Appiah (2) and Paul Southwell.

Division Two high flyers Gyro eased past Division Three’s Chalk Scratchings 4-2 with four blistering first half goals from Ricky Harrison (2), Michael Paisley and Andrew Solomon.

Scratchings mounted a fight back with goals from Joe Dalton and Chris Clarke but Gyro held on for the win.

Cobden Athletic won the all Division One clash with Constitution 6-1, with goals from Robin Harrison, Michael Johnson, Winston Fowler, Jack Bond, Jason Williams and a magnificent over-head kick from Lee O’Driscoll.
