THERE were cheers and hefty pats on the back on Monday night as Gary Gauci walked away from the pool table having just sunk the black ball.|

Onlookers could be forgiven for thinking the 49-year-old (pictured) had just helped The Lion win the division one title in the Chalk Farm Pool League.

Or maybe he had just dramatically pocketed the points they needed to save them from relegation?

No… He hadn’t even helped his side to win their game against the Sir Robert Peel ‘B’ team.

What the Chelsea fan had done, however, was win his first singles game of the season, and it only took him 16 attempts!

“Well I couldn’t leave it much longer because the season will be finished soon,” joked Gary.

Even the fact that the Peel won 5-4 to leave The Lion in a relegation dog-fight wasn’t enough to take the shine off Gary’s long overdue victory. The result leaves The Lion second from bottom.
