OLYMPIC hopefuls and future sporting stars donned their Camden colours this week for the London Youth Games.

Scores of boys and girls did their borough proud as they returned home from Crystal Palace with a mighty medal haul. The boys football team scooped silver, while the girls collected a bronze in their disability football event.

In the disability athletics Hilda Mbleto won gold in the long jump and bronze in the javelin, while Lily Da-Silva and Lorely Bedoa took silver medals in the girls’ 200m and the shot put. Team-mate Shoriff Miah won silver and a bronze in the height bean bag and distance club events.

Success for the swimmers saw William Seagrave and Olivia Willis win gold medals and Amelia Brown, Rebecca Hannet and Josh Negus all take bronze. Camden’s medley team also won a gold medal, with the freestyle team winning a bronze. The aquathon event saw James Slade win gold and Jesse and Bronwyn Matthews both take bronze.

In gymnastics Luke Apata earned a gold in the vault and the overall bronze in the main gymnastics competition, while Sophia Parvizi-Wayne won gold in the indoor rowing event. Further success came in the Mini Games where the boccia team, made up of pupils from Swiss Cottage School, secured a silver medal for the second year running. Gymnast Edward Grimm won three individual golds, before joining team-mates Joe West, Eliza Harding and Radhe Furnari to win a team bronze. Camden’s tag-rugby team also finished as runners-up in their competition.
