ARSENAL midfielder and fans’ player of the season Santi Cazorla has reassured supporters that he will turn on the style even more next term.
Cazorla, who joined the Gunners last summer following personal recommendations from Cesc Fabregas and Robert Pires, won 55.7 per cent of Arsenal supporters’ votes after scoring 12 times in his debut season.
The Spain international and former La Liga star had said he hoped to win silverware when he first arrived at the club from Malaga for
£15million.
The 28-year-old midfielder had to be satisfied with a fourth-place finish in the league and a much-coveted place in the Champions League.
But he insists that Arsenal’s strong finish to the season shows there is more to come from him and the team.
“Next season I will try to perform as well as I have done this year, but also improve,” he told arsenal.com.
“During the last few games the team played very well. This is what we have to aim for next season, we need to be more consistent.”
Arsenal and Cazorla’s bid to hit the ground running in the Premier League this August will come hot on the heels of a hectic summer spell.
Arsene Wenger’s team are due to tour Asia in mid-July and their pre-season will culminate in a match against Premier League rivals Manchester City.
City will be Arsenal’s final opponents before the season starts but the match will take place in Finland rather than England.
Dubbed the “Super Match by Carlsberg”, the game will be played in Helsinki’s Olympic stadium on August 10, a week before the Premier League kick-off.
The Gunners played City last pre-season, that time in Beijing, and Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis says this debut in Finland
will be a chance to prepare for the league.
“They will provide the team with a very competitive match as we finalise preparations for the 2013/14 domestic campaign,” he said.
