New six-storey block planned for Carpetright unit in Kentish Town Road

A NEW block of homes and shops is planned for a prime site in Kentish Town to take the place of a carpet shop, writes Dan Carrier.
The site in Kentish Town Road, facing the junction with Prince of Wales Road, currently houses Carpetright and a bookmakers, with offices on upper storeys.
The plans, submitted to Camden Council, would see the two-storey building, dating from the 1930s, demolished and replaced with a brown brick, six-storey building, creating nine new homes, offices, a dentist’s surgery and shops on the ground floor.
Architect Marek Wojciechowski’s designs include a new basement, seven two-bed flats and two three-bed flats for private sale.
The application says the homes, designed to meet a need in the area, would “replace a rundown facade with a high-quality shopfront suitable for its prominent location”.
The Town Hall has received one objection so far from a neighbour who says it is “another hideous proposal for property redevelopment” and that the size “in no way fits in with those buildings around it”.
Planners are considering the proposals.
