SOME of the capital’s top potters took to the table on Sunday to help the Central London ‘B’ team boost their chances of making the 2015 National Pool Finals.
Manager Joe Flaherty saw his side win four of the final five frames away at Cambridge to pocket a thrilling 19-17 victory in the County Blackball Championships. The result leaves them with a chance of making the elusive finals in March.
Central London’s senior team are also on course for the finals as they remain second in the table despite suffering a heavy 18-7 defeat against Cambridge at the H2O Pool and Snooker Club in Wisbech.
Richard Evans, skipper of the ‘B’ team, said support off the table has proved a major boon for his players after The Hurricane Room in King’s Cross chalked up some cash to sponsor Central London’s teams.
He said: “We practise and play at The Hurricane Rooms so it’s fair to say we’ve struck up a good relationship with area manager Mark Holland.”
Joe added: “The support they’ve shown and the money they’ve put in has helped kit us out for success and covered all the hidden costs like registering players and entering tournaments.
“Having any financial backing at this level makes a real difference, hopefully we can reward them by showcasing their logo at the finals.”
