Canal towpath could become a no-go area
Thursday, 3rd August 2017
• HAVE you noticed the proliferation of camping on the towpath?
The one or two small tents which stayed a day or two were not moved on, then they became more sprawling and numerous.
Now I see that campers under the bridge at Camden Street have moved some mattresses into their tent and welcomed new neighbours on each side. They are also now openly sitting on the towpath using drugs.
If left, I predict the towpath will become a no-go area, particularly after dark and I expect more shanty-town type construction and fires come the autumn.
I see the Canal and River Trust volunteers there quite often. Don’t they feed back that this is becoming a problem?
