Ken Savage
KEN Savage, who magnificently fought for every progressive cause I know of, died yesterday (Wednesday) at the Royal Free Hospital at 94.
Born in Kentish Town, Ken left school at 14, worked at various firms making optical parts until he set up his own company in optics in Islington.
A communist throughout his life, Ken played a key part in both the national pensioners’ movement and the Camden organisation based at Hampstead Old Town.
Apart from his campaigning role for the oldies, he also took up painting in his retirement years and produced several trenchant cartoons on the state of the NHS, one of which hangs in Jeremy Corbyn’s office.
He suffered a slight fall at his Belsize Park home a month ago and complications set in which led to his death.
His funeral will take place at Golders Green crematorium on June 23.
