• CAMDEN Council’s response to the Grenfell Tower disaster is astonishingly incompetent.

As a council leaseholder, I have been sent a bill for £4,084.08 for prospective fire prevention work in my flat. No one from the council has even looked at my flat before demanding this extortionate sum.

Among the pointless works are fire action signs, saying what to do in the event of a fire, and a no smoking sign. I don’t smoke but I have every right to in my own flat. I also know how to get out of my flat in a fire. And yet I have no choice as to whether to install these idiotic measures.

It was exactly this kind of top-down, arrogant, lazy, stupid, attitude that led to flammable cladding being imposed on Grenfell Tower in the first place.
