Camden’s Carlton school ‘consultation’ is just one-way

Thursday, 28th January 2021

• WE read in the January 21 CNJ about the notice of the next stage of the council’s plan to close Carlton school.

Officers and councillors seem oblivious to the conditions faced by many of our parents and children in the pandemic.

Many of us in the BAME community look after vulnerable children and elderly relatives and are more susceptible to the Covid-19 virus.

We live in overcrowded homes on council estates and are at further risk of catching the virus in communal entrances.

The council has ignored our plea to delay the consultation despite 100 parents voting to do so. Gospel Oak has an increasing infection rate and puts further stress and anxiety on families struggling to keep jobs and families together.

Some families are struggling to connect with enough devices for their children to work on and keep up with online learning.

There has been no support from councillors and school governors have not met us. This legal procedure is continuing despite all the difficulties that are being placed on families in this area.

Camden has not shown any care or understanding of our immediate issues and then expects us to reply to a secondary phase of consultation. It seems consultation is a one-way street.
