THE boys from Camden DFC will be looking to complete a magnificent league and cup double on Sunday when they take to the pitch at the Talacre Community Sports Centre in Kentish Town for the grand finals of the North London Special League Cup.
The triumphant team will no doubt still be buzzing having been crowned league champions after edging nearest rivals Wembley-based St Martin’s FC, to the title by just two points last weekend.
The “all-inclusive league” was set-up three years ago to provide a competitive football tournament for disabled people, and in doing so break down social and environmental barriers.
Founder Ben Dorsett, who runs the league through Camden Council’s Sport and Physical Activities Service, said the standard of football on display keeps getting better and better. “This season the action on show was better than ever before, with the title only being decided on the final day,” he said. “It’s a fantastic league, which gives disabled people the same opportunities as everyone else, and allows them to enjoy playing competitive football week in, week out. I’m really looking forward to Sunday’s cup contest,” Ben added. “The race for the league title was close, and I’ve got a feeling the race for the League Cup will be even closer!”
