A GREAT late show saw London Badgers stage a comeback to beat Tufnell Park Athletics 3-2 on Sunday in the opening round of the Sunday league’s Junior Cup.

The Badgers struggled with the windy conditions at Hackney Marshes and with the hour mark approaching looked to be heading for a swift cup exit as they found themselves 2-0 down.

A fast-paced counter-attack resulted in full-back Thomas McCarthy pulling a goal back. The Badgers looked to be running out of time but with nine minutes remaining Andy “Honey Badger” Shora marked his return to action following four months out injured with a sensational diving header to level the scores. The comeback was completed in injury time when Matthew Kemp thundered the ball home from 15 yards.

Tollington Trailblazers, Chalk Scratchings, Coalition Crusaders, FC Bertoli, KM Motors, King’s Hell Cats and AFC Shooters also all went through to the second round.
