Camden should withdraw the threat of closing Carlton School

Carlton School
• CAMDEN Council has belatedly announced that it is postponing its “decision” on the fate of Carlton School to an unspecified date.
Curiously the statement makes no reference to the four nurseries, one of which is also in Gospel Oak, also proposed for closure.
The statement makes a “promise” of full consultation, something which, together with a risk assessment, has not occurred to date although the proposal announcement was made over seven months ago.
It is not clear whether the council will be asking Carlton and the four nurseries to open along with government guidelines.
The staff of these organisations have faced very uncertain future employment prospects (and may continue to do so for many months) yet may be asked to run the risk, however slight, involved in opening the schools.
Many staff will have to get to work by public transport. The same health risks, of course, apply to other schools/nurseries in the borough, but for the staff of Carlton and the four nurseries is their “reward” to be redundancy, at least for some of them, next year?
I suggest as a gesture of “goodwill” Cllr Angela Mason withdraws the threat of closure. Given the need for smaller class sizes to ensure distancing, in any case, more class-room spaces are needed.
