Wendling Estate

• TENANTS should congratulate Helen Chapman for exposing the lapse in the lift maintenance causing hardships, (‘Daily battle’ to fix estate lifts in Gospel Oak estate, March 12).

The explanation given by Camden is untenable, as lift maintenance is not space science.

You kindly published my letter on February 20 about the lapse of lift maintenance in Mary Green tower block, (The council must do more to maintain lifts in tower blocks).

The council failed to respond to such a serious issue. Lift no 1 of the 19th floor Mary Green broke down again on March 2.

When I complained on March 3 I was told that it would be repaired within 24 hours. Previously it was within four hours. The council did not inform the tenants about this contract change.

Housing chief Cllr Meric Apak told tenants, through the CNJ, about the installation of lifts since 2010. I wonder how this helps the tenants with regard to failure to maintain lifts.

It is time for the council to adopt a policy of preventive maintenance for lifts and not wait for a broken lift. I am surprised the council has not apologised to the affected tenants.
