THE Year 7 Camden and Islington District football team added some extra quality to their super squad on Saturday when they went up against North Kent in a friendly.

Playing three 20-minute periods gave both teams the chance to look at new players,  while offering some of this season’s regulars valuable game time.

Even with a number of changes to the team the borough’s boys quickly settled and took an early lead.

Midfielder Bailey Jonson played in a beautifully flighted through ball for the prolific Kristian Mickeli to fire his side in front. But their lead lasted less than a minute as North Kent quickly equalised when Camden and Islington failed to clear their lines from a free-kick.

Debutant Trae Coyle restored the Under-12s side advantage, but they were soon pinned back again when a stray goalkick fell to a North Kent player, allowing him to coolly lob the keeper.

In a topsy-turvy game, Coyle again found the back of the net when he left a string of defenders floundering before rounding the keeper to score a superb goal.

But yet again defending proved Camden and Islington’s Achille’s heel as North Kent scored from a corner to make it 3-3 in the final few minutes.

Showing the never-say-die attitude that earned them a 4-4 draw in their previous outing against Ealing, Andy Taylor’s side grabbed a late winner when Solomon Arouna crossed for Hayden Miller to make it 4-3 with the very last kick of the game.

Camden and Islington’s match-winning squad by school: Luke Hollman (Acland Burghley); Nicolas Halstead (American School); Ronnie Swash (Central Foundation); Hayden Miller and Bailey Jonson (Haverstock); Chris Cunningham (Highbury Grove); Jordan Aloye and Jack Froome (Holloway); Joel Chileshe, Trae Coyle, Samrai Gebrai, Kristian Mickeli and Thierry Okwara (St Aloysius) Solomon Arouna and Franklyn Domi (St Mary Magdalene); Charlie Wickham (St Pauls); Jonty Purdom, Devin Mills and Shun Ishimaru (University College School).
