Camden is being unreasonable about residents’ parking
Friday, 13th March 2020
• PEOPLE living in west Euston will have recently received from Camden Council a consultation document about proposed changes to residents’ parking in the CA-G zone.
The council states that due to the impact of the reduction in residents’ parking within the zone, this constitutes a material change and necessitates a review.
Unfortunately, nowhere does the document actually address the issue of reduced residents’ parking in the zone or make any proposals to alleviate the situation.
Instead the council wants to take advantage of the situation by increasing the hours and days of operation of controlled parking thus raising revenue from friends and relatives who visit after 6.30pm and on weekends.
The combination of HS2 works, the rerouting of water mains and the council’s own building works has meant the loss or suspension of a significant number of residents’ parking bays.
These are bays that residents pay for and the charges made by the council increased by approximately 30 per cent last year and will increase by a further 30 per cent this year.
I think Camden is behaving in an extremely unreasonable way. It wants to charge the top rate for residents’ parking and yet it does not want to provide a reasonable level of service.
People will have to make up their own minds on where they stand on the issue; but I urge you to respond to the consultation and make your views known to your local representatives.
