CAB drop-in services are due to end on September 9

Friday, 23rd August 2019

• WE are deeply concerned to learn that Camden Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)’s drop-in service will be stopped from September 9 and are calling for urgent action to save this important community resource.

As public services face ever deeper cuts, more and more people must turn to CAB to protect their rights and access the support they need and deserve. The lengthy queues outside both Prince of Wales Road and Robert Street show just how great the demand is.

We understand that having lost a third of their income over the last five years, and with further cuts expected, Camden CAB must make changes.

But while switching focus to phone and online enquiries may seem more efficient, it will exclude the most vulnerable who often need CAB the most, including the elderly, victims of abuse, and all who lack access to digital services.

Worryingly, with less than a month to go, many will discover the change when they come to a closed door. We know that there has been exploration of some services operating from the new Greenwood Centre in Kentish Town.

This may be a good way forward but a genuine drop-in service must be maintained. Camden Council must act immediately to ensure that this vital service is protected.
