Burning rather than recycling

Incinerator in Edmonton
• THE rubbish from the borough of Camden is burned in the incinerator in Edmonton.
This includes the plastic and cardboard we fondly believe is recycled, which is more frequently burnt with the household rubbish.
That’s because we have such easy access to incineration, polluting even further someone else’s already deprived neighbourhood.
Camden recycles less than 30 per cent instead of double that like other areas in the UK.
It is insane to be generating heat and energy from burning plastic.
It creates worse emissions than burning coal, and we need to reduce those to meet our targets and survive the climate and ecological disaster.
Dependence on fossil fuels, and the massive profits this generates for the rich, has to be the major factor in the cost of living catastrophe.
