THE builders are booked and are about to begin work restoring The Black Cap pub, writes Dan Carrier.
The LGBT+ cabaret venue in Camden High Street was closed a decade ago by its then owners, pub chain Faucet Inn.
But campaigners refused to give up seeing it return to its former self and, after many highs and lows over the past 10 years, can now see the finishing line in sight.
The New Journal has learned contractors will be going in within a fortnight with an opening date pencilled in for December.
Campaigner Alex Green, who has led the fight to save the pub, said: “Hiding behind the glitter and dust were some classic old building surprises – including some serious issues with the beams holding up the main cabaret bar ceiling – and no, we couldn’t just slap some drag wig tape on it.
“Ensuring the space could hold future generations of LGBTQ+ dancing feet took time and a whole lot of patience. But here’s the good news – the problems have been solved, the builders have been booked.”
